Emergence

Emergence is a young choreographer’s mentoring programme that gives an opportunity to young dancers (ages 13-25) to create through own dance work under the guidance of professional Irish based choreographers.

Emergence aims to increase the participation of young people in creating and developing their own dance works. Young aspiring choreographers are placed in a professional mentoring programme to develop a dance piece for performance. The works are shown on the first evening of the NOISE Moves Youth Dance Festival. Guided by a panel of professional Irish based choreographers, participants not only received a performance experience but go through the creation process of a dance.

Emergence participants receive:

1. Performance in a professional space of their dance choreography with professional lighting and technicians

2. Experience in how to create a dance through the revision process to the stage

3. Professional choreographic mentorship with informal sharings

Current and past participating professional choreographers include Ailish Claffey, Jessie Keenan, Liz Roche, John Scott, and Matt Szczerek.

Emergence is funded by the South Dublin Arts Office and is in partnership with Dance Ireland with support from Rua Red.
